The night after my sister’s engagement party, my dad sent me a few photos on his phone. Except they weren't photos — they were anime illustrations. He'd taken pictures of us all night and quietly run them through an AI, just to see what they'd look like.

I couldn't stop looking at them. Not because they were stylized — but because of how everyone looked. My uncle mid-laugh. My girlfriend in a moment she'd never let herself be photographed in. People who usually hate cameras, completely themselves. No filters. No bad angles. No age. Just the most expressive version of everyone, frozen in something that felt like a story worth keeping.

He kept sending more over the next few days. The bar. The drinks. The hug at the end of the night. And I remember thinking — there's a storyline here. A real one. And it deserves to be more permanent than a phone camera roll that nobody opens two years from now.
